Kendrick Lamar has been very quiet in 2014. With the exception of appearing on some high-caliber songs by other artists, we haven’t had a lot of K. Dot to listen to since he released his second album good kid, m.A.A.d city back in 2012. The drought ends today with “(i) (love myself),” the first single from Kendrick Lamar’s unnamed second major album.
The new song features a sample of The Isley Brothers’ “That Lady.” The cover art depicts a Blood and a Crip gang member forming a heart with their hands. The song is anti-gang and notably more positive and lighter than the material found on Kendrick’s major label debut. Take a listen to “i” below.
Kendrick Lamar’s third studio album is expected to be released later this year.
